Basal Rate of Insulin

Definition:

A continuous dose of insulin from an insulin pump.

This dose mimics the normal release of insulin from the pancreas. The amount of basal insulin required is determined by subtracting the insulin needed for food intake (the bolus dose) from the total amount of required insulin.
