Definition:

Antioxidants are usually found in the form of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients. Their job is to seek and destroy free radicals which cause damage to cellular structures in your body. Free radicals are the product of oxidation and they can start a chain reaction of destruction that leads to heart disease, strokes, cancer, and other chronic inflammatory diseases.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and stop the oxidation process. Antioxidants are found in fruits, vegetables, tea, chocolate and red wine. A study that appeared in the journal, Diabetes, 1999, showed that antioxidants were successful for treating diabetes in lab mice. See the study here...

Examples: Antioxidants can help reverse the damaging effects of free radicals on your health.
