Do Fruits and Vegetables Matter? Yes, They Do

Thursday April 19, 2007

The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH), in coordination with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Culinary Institute of America is sponsoring a contest to promote healthy eating and their new health initiative "Fruits & Veggies - More Matters" TM.

According to a press release from the PBH,

"The Fruits & Veggies—More Matters Challenge is a unique opportunity to reach out to Americans and alert them about this important health initiative, and how to improve this consumption gap in fruits and vegetables,” said Elizabeth Pivonka, PBH president. “We know that families have great ideas and recipes for including more fruits and vegetables at home and on the go. I encourage moms and dads to submit easy tips and recipes that encourage families to eat MORE fruits and vegetables.”

The premise behind the Fruits & Veggies - More Matters health initiative is to encourage families to make good food choices at home and to increase their intake of fruits and vegetables. According to the CDC, eating a diet rich in veggies and fruits has been proven to reduce the risk of many health problems including obesity, diabetes and many other diseases.

The Fruits and Veggies - More Matters website is an interactive site for families that offers recipes, tricks for getting your family to eat healthier, free downloadable shopping trackers and planners, and even moral support for busy parents.

Families are encouraged to submit their favorite recipes and healthy habits to The Fruits and Veggies - More Matters Challenge. One winner will be chosen from each state, and from those winners, five first place winners will compete for the grand prizes. There will be two grand prize winners, and they will receive the opportunity for an all-expenses paid "Family Get Away Weekend with the Culinary Institute of America, learning about cooking healthy meals that feature fruits and vegetables. The contest is open to all families and runs from March 17, 2007 to May 31, 2007

I am studying the works of Robert O. Young. He has a book called the pH miracle for diabetes. and it seems to be extremely important to eat the proper types of low sugar fruits, many veggies, and certain nuts.
